Macro Kelp (also known as giant kelp) create dense kelp forests along the Pacific Coast that sustain a great variety of fish and invertebrates. They are the largest of all seaweed and can grow as much as 60 cm (2 ft) per day reaching lengths of upto 45 m (150 ft). Our wild Macro Kelp are found in the clean, cold waters off Vancouver Island where a portion of the frond (leaf) are selectively hand picked, ensuring the kelp remain alive and continue to positively contribute to our ecosystem. Warm air dried, Macro Kelp are rich in iodine, potassium, other beneficial minerals, vitamins and carbohydrates. While many Asian cultures already integrate seaweed into a healthy diet, kelp and seaweed use in North American cooking are not as common. However, incorporating Macro Kelp into your meal plans promises to add intricate detail, umami and added health benefits into your next meal. Simply adding a whole piece of Macro Kelp into the pot when making rice accentuates the rice's flavour while adding healthy minerals and vitamins such as calcium and vitamin K. Briefly frying Macro Kelp in oil creates an incredibly delicious crispy chip that's healthier and tastier than any of your traditional store bought snacks. Crush up this superfood into any of your favourite broths, soups or noodles guarantees to raise your dining experience to a new level.
